History

Boys & Girls Club of Tahlequah began in 1996, spurred by a need for activities for students after school and during the summer. The Main Unit was opened on October 29, 1996. The first program sites to gain unit status were the Central Elementary After-School Program, in 2000, and the Sequoyah Elementary Program, in 1999. Tahlequah Junior High was the third unit to be established in 2000, followed by the Cherokee Elementary Unit and the Greenwood Elementary Unit in 2001. The Tahlequah High School Unit was established in 2003. Boys & Girls Club of Tahlequah then began reaching schools in rural areas of Cherokee County, with clubs opening at Tenkiller and Briggs in 2004, Woodall, Lowrey and Sequoyah High School in 2006, and Norwood in 2008. Our latest site to achieve unit status in 2011 was Keys School.
